New England Dairy’s free live Virtual Farm Tour on Wednesday, June 3, at 2 pm EST, will connect health and wellness professionals directly to Freund’s Farm for a live video tour and chat with CT dairy farmer Amanda Freund and New England Dairy registered dietitian Hilary Walentuk MS, RD, LDN. Participants will walk away with a greater understanding of cow care, including cow nutrition, veterinary care, cow comfort, and milking technology; how New England dairy farmers are contributing to a sustainable food system, including reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and protection of soil and water; and milk safety including the use of antibiotics, hormones, and milk testing protocols. Participants will have the opportunity to send questions to be answered live by the dairy farmer and nutrition expert during the tour.

About The Presenters

Amanda Freund is a 3rd generation farmer in East Canaan, CT. Her family farm has diversified to include three unique businesses: a dairy farm, a production facility manufacturing CowPots (biodegradable pots made from their cows’ composted manure), and a farm market with a bakery and garden center. Prior to returning to her family’s farm, Amanda served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Zambia. She has traveled around the country speaking at women in agriculture conferences about diversification, sustainability and farming with family (www.girlintheplaidshoes.com).

Hilary Walentuk MS, RD, LDN, is a registered dietitian and Nutrition Specialist with New England Dairy. Hilary manages health-related and university partnerships across the New England region. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and completed both her Master of Science in Food and Nutrition and dietetic internship through Framingham State University’s Coordinated Program in Dietetics. She is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Food & Culinary Professionals and Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutrition dietetic practice groups.
