About the upcoming webinar: This session will examine the potential for dietary factors including prebiotics to modify the gut microbiota and highlight clinical and public health applications of prebiotics for chronic disease management throughout different life stages. Given that dietary and microbial exposures in early life are known to be highly influential in programming health and chronic disease risk later in life, we will examine recent research looking at the role of prebiotics in pregnancy and infancy/childhood. Recent research on the potential role of prebiotics in managing chronic diseases such as obesity and osteoarthritis will be explored. The presentation will conclude with ways in which health professionals can consider gut microbiota and prebiotics to improve chronic disease risk in public health and clinical settings. |

Speaker
Dr. Reimer has an internationally recognized translational research program focused on the role of diet in modifying gut microbiota and host metabolism in the context of obesity, diabetes, and other chronic diseases such as fatty liver disease and osteoarthritis. She has done extensive research in animal models to study how maternal diet and more recently paternal diet, influences offspring's gut microbiota, glucose tolerance and obesity risk. |
